About Us
Haali‑Pular New Jersey (HPNJ) is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational and cultural purposes. Our mission is to promote the unity, religious values and cultural heritage of the Fulani (Pular) community in New Jersey and surrounding areas while fostering educational opportunities, youth programs and community engagement. We are committed to building a lasting center for faith, culture and community service that connects Fulani families across the United States.
What We Do
HPNJ promotes acts of charity, brotherhood and fraternity to lift humanity and restore hope. Our programs include scholarship opportunities, youth empowerment initiatives and cultural events that strengthen Pulaar identity and foster leadership skills. We believe that educating our youth and supporting vulnerable members with grants and resources are essential to fighting poverty and achieving progress.
History & Heritage
The Fulani (Fulbe) people are present in more than twenty countries across West and Central Africa. Their nomadic heritage is linked to the pursuit of greener pastures and the transmission of knowledge and culture across vast regions. Our organization draws on this rich heritage to create a sense of belonging and identity for Fulani descendants living in New Jersey and throughout the United States.
Governance & Membership
HPNJ is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of elected officers and coordinators, including a President, Vice President, Secretary General, Treasurer, Program Director, Religious Affairs Director and others as needed. Board members serve two‑year terms, and the Board meets regularly to oversee all affairs and policies of the organization. An annual General Assembly provides a forum for members to vote on major decisions and elect board members.
Membership is open to anyone who supports our mission, regardless of background or ethnicity. Members are encouraged to participate in our events and initiatives, and to vote on major decisions during the General Assembly. Membership dues may be established by the Board to support our programs and operations.
Our financial policies require that the Treasurer maintain our funds in a recognized U.S. financial institution with dual signatories, ensure annual audits and prohibit any part of the net earnings from benefitting private individuals or political campaigns. Upon dissolution, any remaining assets will be distributed to charitable or educational institutions that align with our mission.
Key Initiatives
- We are result‑oriented and strive to cultivate a mindset of excellence in our youth. Scholarship programs and leadership training empower young Fulani Americans to become future leaders.
- We foster full participation of the Fulani community in all spheres of society by organizing cultural events, civic engagement and networking opportunities.
- We empower vulnerable members with startup grants, job training and other resources to fight poverty and promote economic independence.
- Our flagship project is the construction of a mosque in Newark, NJ, which will serve as a spiritual and cultural hub for Fulani families and friends. We also offer educational classes and mentorship programs to preserve Pulaar language and heritage.
